Archeologia e tutela. Le iniziative di Pio VII per Roma e Ostia Antica

Abstract: After the eighteenth-century “excavations” of antiquity conducted with the purpose of enriching the antiques market, the pontificate of Pius VII Chiaramonti is remembered for the first systematic research and restoration in the center of Rome but also for archaeological activities in peripheral area such as Ostia and Porto. These activities were accompanied by articulated protection Laws: the Chirograph of 1802, the Edict of Cardinal Pacca (1820) and its subsequent Regulations (1821).
