The Introduction to the section entitled Use of History in the Making of Urban Heritage is
about the current context, in which historians are no longer the sole authorities to tell the urban
past, and urban heritage has been institutionalized and recognized in local, national and international
levels in the last few decades. The five articles of the section are presented through the key
topics of contemporary urban heritage protection, which are its temporality, spatiality, the most
comprehensive recent approaches (Historic Urban Landscape and Landscape Bibliography) as
well as the role urban heritage communities.
