Cities HBM implanted in the feet of ramparts was at the origin of the emergence of a
new town planning which modifies the spatial configuration of Tunis. The objective of this article
is the study of the urban and architectural characteristics of cities HBM produced in zones bound
(connected) to ramparts and near the city and it through the example of first French city (HBM
“Franceville” and the first Muslim city “Ettaoufik”. In other words, we are going to highlight the
joints (articulations) between the historic city, its suburbs and the places of access to the urban
space, in an optics which – by the union of the urban history and the analysis morphological
and architectural typo – would emphasize the practices of the actors by taking as case study cities
HBM built in Tunis.
