Abstract: The travel history is a very important topic for the study of urban iconography: this is proved by the scientific production by CIRICE Center of the University of Naples Federico II, that is today a real reference point on this subject in Italy and in Europe. On the occasion of many conferences by CIRICE, a lot of important research experiences have been matured on the theme of urban evolution analyzed through the mean of the travel image of the city: in relation to the European and Mediterranean context in the modern and contemporary age, we can refer to many studies edited by our Center, which show the rich available iconographic repertoire, largely favoured just by the phenomenon of travel. Particularly, after my partecipation to the international conference Travel and Sojourn in the Early Nineteenth Century. Beyond Naples, toward Amalfi and Sorrento (2016) and on the basis of the recent AISU Napoli 2017 Congress, that I coordinated on this issue with Fabio Mangone, in this paper I shall deal with the growing importance of Naples and of Sorrento peninsula during the romantic age as important destinations and myths, here analyzed by means of the study of the nineteenth-century iconography.
